General elections are the elections that are held every 5 years under the Fixed Term Parliament Act. Generally, a general election is an election where both a head of government (such as president or prime minister), all members of legislatures are elected at the same particular time. Each area has the Member of Parliament in short(MP). When you turn the age of 18, you have the right to vote in a general election to whom you want to choose your MP. On the day of the election, people go to polling stations so that they can vote. Voting nowadays takes place through electronic voting machines (EVMs).
