In Arabic , Hijirat means migration. It denotes the migration of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina. Mecca is the holy place of Muslims which has the mosque. Mecca and Medina were the only two cities in Arabia. Mecca was a city of wealth and Medina was the city with Agriculture establishments. Muslims from other parts of the world, pray in the direction of Mecca. In India, it is west. It is known as qibla .A mosque is called Masjid in Arabic. It literally means a place where Muslims prostrate in reverence to Allah. In a congregational mosque , Muslims read their prayers which is popularly known as Namaz. They choose a well learned and most respected male as a leader. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar which is observed as the month of praying and fasting . The adult Muslims except long travellers , diabetes, breast feeders , pregnant women fast a whole day from sunrise to sunset.
