Hint: The term cardio is related to heart and pulmonary is related to lungs. Both organs are present in the thoracic cavity and interconnected. The cause of cardiopulmonary disease is lifestyle changes, being overweight, hypertension etc.
Complete answer:
The thoracic cavity in human beings contains the heart and lungs which are well protected inside the rib cage. The function of the heart is blood circulation and the lungs is to oxygenate the blood. The heart receives deoxygenated blood from the body and sends it to lungs for oxygenation. The lungs further send the oxygenated blood to the heart which further circulates in the body.
The diseases which involve both heart and lungs are known as cardio pulmonary diseases. As these organs are interconnected, any dysfunction can affect the other. The heart is unable to pump blood which leads to the reduced oxygen circulation in our body. The diseases like heart attack, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, heart valve disease, lung cancer, high pressure in the lung artery etc.
The common cause of cardiopulmonary disease is unhealthy lifestyle, poor diet, lack of exercise, excess weight etc. This disease can be diagnosed by imaging techniques. The disease is more common with the patient having a family history of heart disorders.
Note:
Some of the symptoms are nausea, breathlessness, bluish skin in hands and feet, wheezing, headache, chest pain etc. The change in lifestyle and habits can help in improving and treating the condition. In severe cases medication and other advanced techniques helps in dealing with the disease.
