Hint:-Crops are living plants which are grown by farmers. Most of the crops are grown for the purpose of foods such as fruits, grains, or vegetables.
Some other crops are for drugs, or fibres like cotton, or other materials such as wood or rubber.

Crops are of different types (based on the season in which they are grown) :
1. Kharif Crops - The crops which are grown in the monsoon season are known as Kharif crops. For eg., maize, millet, and cotton. These crops require plenty of water and hot weather to grow properly.
2. Rabi Crops - They are sown in October or November. They are then harvested in spring.
- These crops are sown around mid-November – preferably after the monsoon rains.
- They are harvested usually between April and May.
- “Rabi” means “spring season” in Arabic.
- For these crops persistent irrigation is required, because these are grown in dry areas.
- They are also known as Winter Crops, since these are the crops that are sown at the beginning of winter season.
- They are generally not affected by rainfall patterns (however, rain in winter can potentially spoil rabi crops).
- These crops require a warm climate for seed germination and a cold climate to grow.
- Wheat, barley, oats, gram, mustard, linseed are some examples of Rabi Crops.
- The major rabi crop in India is Wheat, and then Barley, Mustard, Sesame and Peas.
Although Rabi crops are grown in several parts of India, some states such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir are significant for the production of wheat and other rabi crops.

Note:- A few other crops are :-
Zaid crops (are grown between the Kharif and Rabi seasons - between March and June).
Food crops (are basically grown to feed the humans).
Cash crops (are the ones that are cultivated to be sold in the market so as to earn profits from the sale).
