There are two types of blood vessels in the body. They are the artery which carries blood away from the heart and the veins which carry blood towards the heart. The heart is the chief organ for pumping blood in our body. The heart receives the impure blood from all the parts of the body, sends it to the heart for oxygenation to the lungs and receives the oxygenated blood for the lungs and circulates the same to all the parts of the body.

We know that the veins carry the deoxygenated blood from all the parts of the body to the superior and inferior vena cava which enters the heart. The blood from the heart goes to the lungs through the pulmonary artery as the arteries are the blood vessels which carry blood away from the heart. The lungs after oxygenation sends the pure oxygenated blood to the heart through the pulmonary vein. This blood is circulated to all the parts of the body through the aorta.
Thus, the pulmonary vein is the only vein which carries oxygenated blood.
