Hint: Rabies vaccine is an active immunising agent which is used for the prevention of disease spread by Rabies virus. The vaccine works by developing antibodies inside our own body against the virus.

Complete answer:
Let’s discuss the options and find out the correct answer.
- Edward Jenner was a scientist and an English physician who was the first to have given the concept of vaccines including the vaccine for smallpox, the world’s first vaccine. The terms vaccine and vaccination was first derived by him from the word Variolae vaccinae to denote cowpox. He is also called the father of immunology.
- Paul Ehrlich was a german physician and scientist who got a Nobel prize for his great works. He worked on the fields of hematology, immunology and antimicrobial chemotherapy. His best achievement was to find a cure for syphilis in 1909. He developed methods for staining tissue which made it possible to differentiate between different types of blood cells. It also led to the ability to diagnose various blood diseases.
- Louis Pasteur and Emile Roux developed the first vaccine for rabies in 1885. It was first used on a 9 year old boy named Joseph Meister who was bitten by a rabid dog on July 6, 1885. This method involved inoculation with homogenates of RABV-infected rabbit spinal cord that had been desiccated progressively in sterile air.
- Alexander Fleming was a scottish physician and microbiologist who discovered the enzyme lysozyme and the world’s first antibiotic substance penicillin. In 1922, he discovered lysozyme from his nasal discharge and a bacterium Micrococcus luteus .
Hence, option (C) Louis Pasteur is the correct answer.

Note: There are 4 doses of vaccine which needs to be given for Rabies virus. The first dose must be given as soon as possible after exposure. The other three doses should be given on the 3rd, 7th and 14th day respectively after the first dose.
