Hint: Urine is the liquid waste that is eliminated from our body as a result of metabolism. It is produced by the process of filtration, reabsorption by the kidney. The prepared urine is collected in the urinary bladder and via tubes it is excreted outside.
Complete answer:
The human kidney is a bean-shaped organ that occurs in pairs. It produces urine which is the nitrogenous waste rich in urea and other excretory products like water, salts, glucose, electrolytes etc by the metabolism and is released to outside.
The urine is formed by the filtration of the blood in the nephrons. The glomerulus, convoluted tubules, and collecting ducts perform the function of filtration, reabsorption, secretion and excretion from the blood and produce urine. The prepared urine is passed and collected in the sac-like urinary bladder by the tubes called the ureter. These tubes are two in number emerging one from each kidney which can be seen in the following diagram of urinary system.
From the urinary bladder arises a tube called the Urethra which passes the urine to the outside. The urethra is a thin muscular tube whose length differs in males and females. In the case of males, the urethra passes through the penis. In the case of females, the length is small and it exists in between the clitoris and the vagina.
Therefore, we can say that urethra is the tube that passes urine to the outside of the body.
Note: The act of passing urine is known as Urination. The brain signals the urinary bladder to tighten its muscles. Thus, the urine is squeezed out through the urethra from the body. In the case of males, the urethra is connected with the vas deferens. It serves as a channel for the ejaculation of sperm.
