Hint:
Anglo- Mysore Wars were a series of four wars in the latter half of the 18th century between the Kingdom of Mysore and the British in Southern India. Earlier, Hyder Ali was a soldier in the Mysore Army.

Complete Answer:
Owing to his military skills, Hyder Ali rose to prominence in the army. He was subsequently made the Dalavayi (commander-in-chief), and afterward, he was made the Chief Minister of the Mysore state under the ruler of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar II. He became the de-facto ruler of Mysore through his administrative prowess and military skills with the real king reduced to a titular head only. He consequently established a modern army and trained them along European lines. For training his army, he also took French support. This is what then alarmed the Britishers. Consequently, the British, along with the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Marathas declared war on Mysore. Hyder Ali, with his skillful diplomacy, was able to bring the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Marathas to his side. The Marathas were paid by Hyder Ali to turn them neutral. Without any conclusion, the War continues for a year-and-a-half. Suddenly Haidar changed his strategy and appeared before the gates of Madras. The English were forced to conclude a very humiliating treaty with Haider, known as the Treaty of Madras which was signed on 4th April 1769 which brought the war to an end following complete chaos and panic at Madras. The territories conquered by both sides were restored to each other and it was also agreed that in case of a foreign attack, they would help each other.

Thus, option (C) is correct.

Note:
The Battle of Chengam was also a part of the First Anglo-Mysore War, and was fought on 3rd September 1767. This battle resulted in the victory of the British.
