Hint Basically two types of voting systems are there that are territorial method and system of proportional representation. The later one is further divided into a single transferred and list system. Eventually, even the smallest proportion of the population has a share in electing the president of India.

Complete step by step solution
The selection of a president is done by the means of system proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote. Article 55 of the Indian constitution provides us the process for the election of the President of India. It happens via a secret ballot. The basic principle followed is that the votes cast by the Member of Parliament must be equal to the vote cast by the member of the state legislature. Now different states have different numbers of legislatures. Bigger states have more legislature and the smaller states have less number of the legislature. In the case of states with less number of the legislature then they will have more votes. First of all the calculation of votes is done by dividing the population of states by 1000. Then this is further divided by the number of legislators in the state. This is the number of votes given to each legislator.

Thus, the correct option is A.

Note The actual votes are given by an MP that is a Member of Parliament or MLA that is a member of a legislative assembly. They always vote for the candidate of their respective parties for the post of president. To contest for election for president the candidate should be a citizen of India, above the age of 35, and a member of Lok Sabha. The current President of India is Mr. Ram Nath Kovind.
