Hint: This process is completely related to cultivation. This is preparing a new soil bed before putting the seeds in the crop field. Small tools to large machines are used in this process and also draft animal power is used.
Complete answer:
Tilling is the process of loosening or turning the soil. It is also known as ploughing and is done to prepare a new garden bed or crop field and also when large amounts of organic material are added to the soil. The machine which is used for tilling is a plough which is made up of wood or iron. Also, cultivators or hoes and tillers are used for this process but cultivators are used for small cultivable land whereas tillers are used for large areas.
Additional Information:
-Tilling process also provides the farmers or gardeners with the opportunity to supplement the soil with the proper mixing of the nutrients and uproot the growing weeds beforehand.
-Tilling is mainly the preparation of soil for agriculture by the mechanical process of various types, such as digging, stirring, and overturning.
-Tilling is done two to three weeks before planting seeds or seedlings because this will provide time for microorganisms that were disrupted by tilling, to re-establish and begin developing nutrients in the soil.
-Tillers and cultivators, stir the soil for aeration and prepare the smooth or loose seedbed if used before planting. Well-aerated soil helps water, oxygen, and other nutrients to reach plant roots easily.
-If tillers and cultivators are used after the crop has begun growing this means it is done to kill the weeds either by uprooting them or by burying their leaves to disrupt their photosynthesis or by both.
-Generally, cultivators are either self-propelled or are attached behind either a two-wheel tractor or four-wheel tractor.
-In India, draft-animal power is still used today for cultivation purposes and is common in developing nations.
Note:
-Tilling is a good defence against weeds and other insects from invading and damaging our garden or crop field.
-If fertilizer and other organic materials are added into the ground during the tilling process helps the soil to become enriched with ingredients.
