Hint: In this kind of problem we need to approach questions by finding the volume of tiles and rectangular regions to find how many tiles can be fit inside the rectangular region the capacity of the rectangular region will be known when we find the volume of it. By dividing it by volume of 1 tile.

Given that,
Dimension of tiles are $12cm(lenght) \times 5cm(breadth)$
To find the no of tiles fit in a given rectangular region,
No of tiles$ = \dfrac{{{\text{Area of region}}}}{{{\text{Area of 1tiles}}}}$
(a) $100cm{\text{ and }}144cm$
$ = \dfrac{{144 \times 100}}{{12 \times 5}}$
Multiply and then dividing it we get,
$ = \dfrac{{14400}}{{60}}$
$ = 240tiles$

(b) $70cm{\text{ and 36cm}}$
$ = \dfrac{{70 \times 36}}{{12 \times 5}}$
Multiply and then dividing it we get,
$ = \dfrac{{2520}}{{60}}$
$ = 42tiles$

Therefore, in the first case we need 240 tiles, in the second case we need 42 tiles.

Note:
In this kind of problem analyze the unit of given parameters if it is not the same convert then solve by finding volume and diving obtained value the stuff to be fit in the volume of the given area what-ever given.
