Hint: The term which describes the various kinds of species of organisms and their range found in a particular area was first coined by Walter G but made popularised by a sociobiologist named Edward Wilson.

Complete answer:
Biodiversity refers to the natural heterogeneity observed in our surroundings or biosphere including all the levels of biological organization. In simple words, we can say that biodiversity is a term used to describe The various kinds of species of organisms and their range found in a particular area. It can be studied under three hierarchical levels namely genetic diversity, ecological diversity, and species diversity.

Additional Information: Genetic diversity refers to the vast number and types of genes as well as chromosomes that exist in different species. The variations in the genes as well as in alleles exhibited within a particular species also qualify in genetic diversity. For e.g, India alone grows more than 50000 different varieties of rice.
Species diversity is the variety of species confined to a region. An example of species diversity includes the higher species richness of Amphibians in the Western Ghats than in the Eastern Ghats.
Ecological diversity encompasses the variations or diversity at an ecosystem level. Like higher biodiversity is observed in tropics than in temperate. Scientists reason that this is due to the frequent glaciation in temperate regions for much time period in the past. This was in contrast to tropics which have remained relatively undisturbed for millions of years. This condition favored species diversification.
Also, tropical environments are less seasonal and remain relatively stable and predictable. This is also a driving force for niche specialization.

Note:
- Biodiversity is a source of significant economic, aesthetic, health, and cultural benefits that form the foundation of sustainable developments. The scale of human impact has clearly affected biodiversity resulting in a loss.
- Various national parks, biosphere reserves, botanical gardens, and zoos have been developed across countries in order to save the remaining biodiversity.
