It is the third or fourth largest nation in the world, covering about 9.6 million square kilometres. The entire Sino-Indian border (including the western LAC, the tiny undisputed segment in the middle and the McMahon Line in the east) is 4.056 km long and crosses five Indian states/territories: Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

a. Jammu and Kashmir was a territory which had been formerly ruled by India as a state from 1954 to 2019, which constituted the southern and south-eastern portions of Kashmir, which has been the subject of a dispute between India, Pakistan and China from the middle of the 20th century.
