First we should know about biodiversity to answer this question. In 1985, as a contraction of biological diversity, the word biodiversity was introduced by E.O. Wilson. The number and variability of living things and the ecological complexes wherein they live can be known as biodiversity. In other words, biodiversity is the occurrence, along with its relationships and mechanisms, of various types of ecosystems, and species of organisms with the entire spectrum of their variations and genes suited to different climates, environments. Biodiversity comprises genetic variability and diversity in forms of life such as plants, animal microbes, etc. that exist in a wide range of ecosystems.
About 70% of the species reported on Earth are animals, and just 22% are plants. There's always a big gap in their percentage. This is because, in contrast to plants, animals have modified themselves to ensure their sustainability in changing environments. For example, a complex nervous system has been developed by insects and other animals to regulate and manage their body structure. Presence of body repeated segments with paired appendages and external cuticles have allowed insects to become flexible and provided them the ability to live as compared to other life forms in diverse ecosystems. Animals have complex or simple nervous systems for regulating and coordinating different activities they have receptors to receive and respond to environmental stimuli. In changing environmental circumstances, most of their responses are adaptive and maintain their survival.
