Hint: Fertilization is a chance event i.e it is not sure that if sperms are released in the female tract, the fertilization will take place and if fertilization is taking place, no one can predict that the sperm has x chromosome or y chromosome.
Complete step by step answer:
The sex of a newborn child is purely and completely a matter of chance and none of the parent i.e mother and father may be considered answerable for it. The statement in question is justified and can be proved by the process of fertilization: A male has XY chromosomes and a female has XX chromosomes.
- If a sperm carrying X chromosome from the male gamete gets combined with the X chromosome from the female gamete, then the resultant product is going to be XX and the child will be a daughter.
- If a sperm carrying Y chromosome from a male gamete gets combined with the X chromosome from a female gamete, then the resultant combination is going to be XY, and therefore the child is going to be a baby boy. Since the sex of the kid will depend upon the fusion of the sort of sperm with an ovum. Since a human male produces both sperms in equal proportion, so there are 50% chances for both male and female offspring.
Note: The process of fusion of sperm and the ovum is known as fertilization. On average males release, around 100 million sperm in a single ejaculation but only one sperm fuses with the female’s egg for fertilization.
