The term Sarvodaya was the title of Gandhi's 1908 translation of John Ruskin's book, Unto This Last. Later into his life, the concept of Sarvodaya became a central part of his political philosophy. He understood Sarvodaya as "the welfare of all" and applied it practically into ideas such as the dignity of labour, equitable distribution of wealth, communal self-sufficiency and individual freedom. The legacy of his Movement was carried on by his spiritual successor, Vinoba Bhave. Jaya Prakash Narayan, Dada Dharmadhikari, Ravishankar Maharaj, K. G. Mashruwala are other important leaders who worked to carry the movement forward. However, the movement was started by Mahatma Gandhi.
