Complete Step by Step Answer - The Pune Sarvajanik Sabha was established in 1870 as an organisation working for social and political reforms. It was initiated as an elected body. It had 95 members who were elected by 6000 people. It worked to bring the topic of legal rights of peasants to the forefront of political conversations happening in the nation. It was to serve as a mediation body, coordinating and presenting the demands of the people to the British Government. The organisation was formed by Mahadev Govind Ranade. Ranade is also credited with making efforts to start the Hindu reformist organisation Prarthna Samaj. MG Ranade worked in his life as a teacher, a barrister and later even as a Judge in the Bombay High Court. Other important leaders of the organisation were M M Kunte, Vishnu M Bhide, S. H. Chiplunkar and Ganesh Vasudeo Joshi. The organisation gave to the Indian freedom struggle many towering leaders such as Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Maharshi Annasaheb Patwardhan and Gopal Hari Deshmukh who also served as the organisation's president at different times. The first president of the organisation was Bhawanrao Srinivasa Rao Pant Pratinidhi. The Sabha organised meetings, lecture tours, published a quarterly journal and also undertook famine relief work.
