Hint: Plains are a type of landform that are flat, have gentle slopes and small local relief. The Punjab plains are a part of Indo-Gangetic-Brahmaputra plains or the Great plains of India

Complete answer: Option (A)With an area of 1.75 lakh square kilometer, the Punjab plains are drained by tributaries of Indus. The Punjab Plain covers areas of Eastern Pakistan as well as North western India. In India, the Punjab plains cover the states of Haryana and Punjab. The plain has Shivalik hills to its north , Delhi Aravali ridge to its east and Malwa plateau to its south. The plain has alluvial deposits because of the perennial rivers that flow here. Ravi, Beas, Sutlej and Yamuna flow through it. The plain is basically a doab i.e land between rivers. With an average elevation of 250m above sea level , these plains were formed 65 and 2.6 million years ago. Agriculture is an important activity in these areas and crops like cereals, oilseeds, sugarcane and cotton are grown.
Option (B) north east is incorrect as the Brahmaputra plain, which is an aggradational plain forming the Assam valley, is found in the north east of India.
Option (C ) north south is incorrect as Ganga plains extends from north Delhi to Kolkata and is drained by both peninsular and himalayan rivers.

Therefore option (A) north east of India is the correct answer.

Note: The great plains of India are further divided into -Sindh Plain, Rajasthan Plain, Punjab Plain, Ganga Plain, Brahmaputra Plain and Ganga – Brahmaputra Delta.
Another point to note is that the water divide between Sutlej and Yamuna river-the Haryana tract- falls in this region of Punjab plains.
