Hint: The process uses the manufacture of Sodium Carbonate which is also known as Soda Ash by using the starting material as Sodium Chloride which is also known as Common salt or table salt. Sodium carbonate produced by this process is extracted from Black Ash, which is a mixture of Sodium Carbonate and calcium Sulphide.

Sodium Carbonate was earlier manufactured by a process known as the Leblanc Process.
This process required the Starting product, Sodium Chloride to be treated with Sulphuric acid which would yield Sodium Sulphate and Hydrogen Chloride.
$2NaCl + {H_2}S{O_4}\xrightarrow{{}}N{a_2}S{O_4} + 2HCl$
Sodium Sulphate is then heated with calcium carbonate also known as limestone and coal to produce black ash, which contains Sodium carbonate.
This was done in two parts, first by reducing sulphate to sulphide by using coal.
$N{a_2}S{O_4} + 2C\xrightarrow{{}}N{a_2}S + 2C{O_2}$
In the second step, Sodium carbonate is produced by adding Calcium Carbonate.
This process yields Sodium Carbonate and Calcium Sulphide. This mixture is commercially known as Black ash and can be used to effectively extract Sodium Carbonate.
