Hint: This Act provides for the conservation of wild animals, birds, and plant species in the country, with a view to ensuring wildlife and environmental welfare.

Complete answer:
In 1972, the Indian Parliament enacted the Wildlife Conservation Act, which provides for the preservation and protection of wildlife (flora and fauna) in the region. The Act provides for the establishment of Wildlife Advisory Councils, Wildlife Wardens, their powers and responsibilities, etc. It allowed India to become a party to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). The Act defined six schedules that give differing degrees of protection to the groups of flora and fauna. The National Wildlife Board was formed as a legislative body under the terms of this Act. It is an advisory board that provides guidance to the central government on matters relating to the protection of wildlife in India. It is also the apex body to review and authorize all issues relating to biodiversity, national park initiatives, sanctuaries, etc. The Act also called for the formation of the National Tiger Conservation Authority. It is a legislative body of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, with an overall supervisory and coordinating component, fulfilling the functions set out in the Act. Its mandate is to improve the protection of tigers in India. It provides statutory authority to Project Tiger, which was initiated in 1973 and set the endangered tiger on an assured road to recovery by saving it from extinction.

So, the correct answer is Option C.
