Hint: The Nilgiri mountains are a part of the Western Ghats located in western Tamil Nadu. The name Nilgiri has been derived from Sanskrit word ‘Nilam’ which means blue and ‘Giri’ means mountains.

Complete answer: In the north the Nilgiri hills are separated by the Karnataka Plateau and in the South by Noyar river and from the Anaimalai and Palni hills.The highest point of the Nilgiri hills is Doda Betta which is 8652 feet. The hills are rich in flora and fauna.Over 2700 species of flowering plants grow in the region. It is also the home for several animals like Bengal tiger, Indian elephant,Indian leopard, Chital deer, golden jackal and so many others.The highest unbroken waterfall in the Nilgiris is the Kolakambai fall which has a length of 120metre. The second highest is Catherine falls which is 76 metre.
The Nilgiri hills are a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve which is a part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.
