Hint: A high plain or tableland is known as Plateau. The highest plateau is located in Asia and is also known as “Roof of the world”.

Complete answer:The highest and largest of all the plateaus in the world is the Tibetan Plateau which is metaphorically described as the “Roof of the world”. It is still being formed by the collisions of the Indo-Australian and Eurasian tectonic plates. It covers the area of approximately 2,500,000 km sq. at about 5000m or 16000 ft above the sea level and is surrounded by the massive mountain ranges of high-mountain Asia. It is bordered to the South by the inner Himalayan Range, to the north by the Kunlun Mountains, which is separated from the Tarim Basin and to the northeast by the Qilian Mountains which separate the plateau from the Hexi Corridor and Gobi Desert. The annual precipitation here ranges from 100 to 300 millimetre and mainly it falls in the form of hail. This plateau contains the headwaters of the drainage basins of most of the streams in surrounding regions.
The Tibetan Plateau is sometimes termed as the Third Pole and has ice fields which contain the largest reserve of freshwater outside the polar regions.

So, the correct answer is option C.

Note: The Tibetan Plateau is also known as the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau or the QingZang Plateau or as Himalayan Plateau in India. It is a vast elevated plateau in South Asia, Central Asia and East Asia.
