The Sundarbans comprise the world's largest mangrove forests. It is one of the most efficient natural ecosystems. The Nanda Devi and Valley of Flowers National Parks are extremely beautiful high-altitude West Himalayan landscapes with extraordinary biodiversity. - Wetland Rules 2010 have been inaugurated to safeguard wetlands in India. The Central Government has also introduced the scheme, National Plan for Conservation of Aquatic Ecosystem that gives aid to the states for the sound administration of all wetlands.

-In order to prevent the unnecessary trade of wildlife and that of endangered variety, the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau has been created.

- Special institutions like Wildlife Institute of India, Bombay Natural History society and Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History are established to administer study on preservation of wildlife.
