- Four protein molecules i.e., globulin chains that are bound together make up haemoglobin. An essential iron-containing porphyrin compound called heme is found in each globulin chain.
- Usually responsible for the red colour of the blood is the iron found in haemoglobin. In order to preserve the structure of red blood cells, haemoglobin plays an essential function.
- Hemoglobin deficiency might cause anaemia, since it is the haemoglobin found in the red blood cells that brings oxygen to the body's cells.
