Hint: The collector in a transistor is one of the three ends. As the name suggests, the main role of the collector is to “collect” charges. It is the region where all the charges finally accumulate. So, the collector should have the properties that attract charges. It should also have the properties to act as a good host to the charges. Based on these insights, we will try to answer a question, that is, what should be the basic criteria for collector construction in a transistor.

Complete step-by-step solution:
A transistor is a semiconductor device which has three ends. These ends are Collector, Emitter and Base.
Emitter is the region which emits large amounts of charges through base to the collector, so it is heavily doped. The size of the emitter is smaller than the collector but larger than base. This is done to prevent recombination of charges at base that are travelling from emitter to collector. The collector is the place where the charges are received, thus heat being released. This is why collectors are the largest in size and moderately doped.
Hence, we can say from the working of a transistor that the collector of the transistor should be of largest size among the three and moderately doped.

Additional information: Transistors are of two types. The first one is called a PNP transistor. As the name suggests, it is formed by sandwiching an N-type semiconductor in between two P-type semiconductors. And the second one is an NPN transistor in which two N-type semiconductors sandwich a P-type semiconductor.

Note: The first transistor was first developed by John Bardeen, William Shockley and Walter Houser Brattain in 1947. Its invention marked the beginning of the revolution of decades long dormant electronic industries. All the electronic devices that we come across each day in our life have a chip in it and therefore have a transistor in it.
