Hint: Bhakra Dam is a concrete gravity dam constructed in the state of Himachal Pradesh, in northern India. Nangal Dam is another dam in Punjab downstream of Bhakra Dam. As both dams are connected, they are together known as the Bhakra-Nangal Dam.

Complete answer: The dam is located at a gorge (now submerged) near the upstream Bhakra village in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh on the Sutlej River. The construction of the dam started in 1948 and it was put to use on and from 1963. The dam has a reservoir named as ‘Gobind Sagar’ which stores up to 9.34 billion cubic metres of water. In respect of quantity of water, it is the third largest reservoir in India.
The Sutlej river which used to flow through a gorge between two hills, Naina Devi ki dhar and Ramgarh ki dhar, was chosen to build this dam on. The Bhakra-Nangal Dam is a huge multipurpose river valley project that was designed to prevent floods in Sutlej river valley, to provide irrigation to nearby states and this dam also immensely helped in the production of hydro-electricity. This site became a famous tourist spot because of its huge size and uniqueness.
At first, the construction of the dam was initiated by Sir Louis Dane, the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab. But due to various reasons the project got delayed, and the construction of the same restarted after independence under chief architect Rai Bahadur Kunwar Sen Gupta. The construction of the dam was entirely financed by the union government of India.

Hence, The correct answer is Option C.

Note: The dam is home for a wide range of fishes of different spices. Providing water for commercial fishing is another function of the dam. This is the second tallest dam in Asia with a height of about 207.26 metres. It is the only dam in Asia that can produce 1500 MW of power.
