One of the peculiarities of test cricket is that a match can be played for five days and can still stop with a draw. No other type of modern team sport takes that much time to finish the game. A football match for example is usually over within an hour and a half of its playing time. Team sports, such as football and hockey set the dimensions of the playing ground while cricket does not. Grounds for cricket can be oval or nearly circular in shape. Cricket started as a village game and its link with the rural past is visible in the time period of a test match.
