Hint: The word biodiversity is made up of two words, bio which means biological organisms, and diversity which means variation. Therefore, biodiversity refers to the variation of the biological species in any area. Moreover, the conservation of biodiversity in any area is very necessary.
Complete answer: Some steps to conserve biodiversity can be as follows –
1. We can try to restore an area to its normal form after it is damaged by human impacts. This can be done by restoring the flora and fauna of that particular area.
2. We should try to minimize deforestation. Special focus should be presented on the rare plants. Their cultivation should be encouraged.
3. We should try to reduce climate change. For that global warming needs to be controlled. The need of the hour is to reduce the carbon-dioxide emissions. For this, methods to reduce air pollution should be adopted. The use of CNG in vehicles should be given preference. Nowadays even electric vehicles have come up.
4. We should try to use public transportation as much as possible. Otherwise, options like carpools, etc. can be used.
5. We should buy sustainable electric products that are safe for our environment. These products are given ratings based on how safe their emissions are for the environment.
6. The use of plastic products should be discouraged that pollute the environment and pose a severe hazard. Plastic should be substituted with other eco-friendly substances.
7. The ideology of reuse, reduce, and recycle should be adopted and strictly followed in our daily lives.
Note: The term biodiversity was popularized by Edward Wilson who was a sociobiologist. He described biodiversity as the combined diversity or the heterogeneity at all the levels of the biological organization. Biodiversity is seen from the macromolecular levels to the biomes.
