Hint: In chemistry, salt is the chemical compound consisting of cations and anions . Salt is composed of a related number of cations [positively charged ions ] and anions [negatively charged ions] so the product is electrically neutral. It is produced by a reaction between an acid and base. Depending on the strength of the acid or base, salt formed can be acidic, basic or neutral in nature.

Complete step by step answer:
as we know the definition of salt that it is the chemical compound formed when acid or base react each other. General reaction of salt formation is given as,
$NaOH + HCl \to NaCl + {H_2}O$ ; $NaCl$ is a salt which is completely dissociated to give respect to sodium ions and chloride ions . so that the product is electrically neutral . These compounds may be inorganic and organic .Salts are of two types ; salt on hydrolysis gives hydroxide ions and are called alkali salt . salts that produce acidic solution are called acid salts . neutral salts are neither acidic or basic that means they do not produce hydroxyl ion and hydronium ion .
Solids salts tend to be transparent, for example sodium chloride . Some salts exist in different colors which arise either from the anion or cation .
Uses of salts ; salts have long been used for flavoring and for preserving food . It is also used in dyeing , tanning and bleaching and also used in production of soaps .
Uses of salt dissolve in water ; salt can be separated out from water via evaporation ,through which water can be evaporated out and salt can be collected easily .
When salt is dissolved in water there is no change in the shape , texture , crystal structure of the salt.

Note: Few minerals are salts because they would be solubilized by water. Inorganic pigments are also salts because insoluble is required for fastness. Some organic dyes are also salt but they are insoluble in water.
