Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji was born on 15th April 1563 in Goindwal which is located in Punjab in India. He was the first Guru in the Sikh community who was born in a Sikh family. His father’s name was Guru Ram das who was the fourth Guru and the mother’s name of Sri Guru Arjan dev ji was Mata Bhani. The famous religious scripture of Sikhism enclosing spiritual poetry and musical ragas was assembled by Sri Guru Arjan dev Ji which later came to be called Guru Granth sahib and it was installed at Harmandir sahib. He also founded the city that is located between the Ravi River and the Beas River that is famous by the name Amritsar; he installed the Guru Granth of Sikhism there. Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji was the greatest Sikh Gurus who took over the leadership of Sikhism from his father, Guru Ram Das in 1581. He extended the social reforms and missionary efforts of earlier Gurus. Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji was oppressed by the Mughal emperor Jahangir who fined him 200,000 rupees and were ordered to remove all parts of the Guru Granth that was considered as resentment to either Islam or Hinduism but when the Guru Arjan dev Ji refused, he was tortured for many days to death.
