Hint: The Shivaliks are the youngest belt of the Himalayan mountains. The Shivaliks are the largest sites for fossils. The Shivaliks are an exquisite beauty.

Complete answer: The Himalayas are the youngest mountains in the world. They can be divided into Greater Himalayas, Lesser Himalayas and the Outer Himalayas. The Outer Himalayas or the foothills of the Himalayan ranges are known as Siwaliks. The height of the Siwaliks ranges from 600-1200 m. The hills run parallely to the Himalayan hills to the Brahmaputra valley, ending up to the Potwar Plateau of Pakistan. The Siwaliks thus cross the states of Jammu and Kashmir,Punjab,Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Assam. The name of the ‘Siwaliks’ can be translated as the ‘the pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Shiva’. The features of Siwaliks are:
1. The ranges consist of gravel and sediments which are brought down by the Himalayan rivers located in the north.
2.The valleys of the Siwaliks are covered with gravel and alluvium. The valleys located in between the lesser Himalayas and the Siwaliks are referred to as ‘Duns’. For example: DehraDun,Kotli Dun and Patli Dun.

Thus, The correct answer is Option B.

Note: The Siwaliks constitute a very fragile ecosystem. The Siwalik mountains consist of deep coniferous and oak forests. A variety of migratory birds fly every year to the Pong Dam Wetland in the Siwaliks, which has been declared as Ramsar Wetland Site which is of international importance.
