Hint: A graphical representation of the connection among various organisms in an ecosystem is known as the ecological pyramid. Every step that makes up the pyramid represents a distinct trophic level, and their order is based on who consumes whom and illustrates the flow of energy. Pyramids are of three types- Pyramid of the number, biomass, and energy.
Complete answer:
Energy is attained in the aspect of food in the ecosystem. The first basis of energy is the sun and producers such as green plants that trap solar energy and transform it into chemical energy for obtaining their food. About 10 percent of energy is transferred from one trophic level to another and thus prevents the formation of a huge quantity of trophic levels. The primary producer is eaten up by the primary consumer, the primary consumer is eaten by the secondary consumer, the secondary consumer is eaten by the tertiary consumer, and so on. Thus, this leads to the formation of a food chain made up of this relationship from producers to consumers. The energy is passed from one trophic level to the next trophic level and an energy pyramid is always upright because some amount of energy is always lost to the environment in each step when it flows from the producer to consumer and that energy will never go back to the sun.
Note:
The shape of the pyramid of biomass and number may either be upright, inverted, or dumbbell-shaped because it relies on the kind of the food chain. Trophic level is defined as the position that each individual occupies in a food chain. Energy is not established in the ecosystem but is simply transferred from one form into another.
