Hint:-Pusa sawani is a disease resistant variety of okra. It is resistant to shoot and fruit borer. They were released by the IARI, situated in New Delhi. It can be cultivated in spring, summer and rainy seasons.
Complete Answer:-
Pusa sawani is the disease resistant variety of okra. It is grown in spring, summer and rainy seasons. The fruits that it bears are dark green in colour and are smooth with five ridges. The crops of this variety of okra usually mature within 50 days, starting from the time of sowing. The production of this variety was done by interspecific hybridization. In this, the desirable plants were taken and segregation was done. Plant selection starts from the second generation and can continue till the fifth and sixth generation. Pusa sawani was developed by this method in an inter-varietal cross. It was derived from the cross of IC-1542 and pusa makhmali. It is resistant to yellow vein mosaic virus. It is distinguished by the presence of a purple patch at the base of the yellow petal on both sides. It is grown in the plains of northern India in the virus free period. It has a yield potential of 100q/hectare.
The correct answer is Option A. Hybridisation and Selection.
Note:- The breeding methods used for okra are pure line selection, pedigree method, mutation breeding and heterosis breeding. At present, the hybrid varieties present in the Indian market are MH10, MH64, 152, Hyb 215, Avantika and sonal. They all have high yields and are resistant to the yellow vein mosaic virus.
