Hint: Protoplast, is a biological term coined by Hanstein in the year 1880 to describe the entire cell, excluding the cell wall. Protoplasts can be created by stripping the cell wall from plant, bacterial, or fungal cells by mechanical, chemical or enzymatic means.
Complete answer:
Option – A – Protoplasm is the living part of a cell which is surrounded by a plasma membrane. It is a common term for the cytoplasm but it includes the nucleoplasm.
Option – B – Animal cells are typical of the eukaryotic cell that are enclosed by a plasma membrane as well as they contain a membrane-bound nucleus along with organelles. Unlike the eukaryotic cells of plants as well as fungi, animal cells do not have a cell wall.
Option – C – The cells which have had their cell wall removed, are known as Protoplast. It is removed usually by digestion with enzymes. Cellulase enzymes digest the cellulose in plant cell walls on the other hand pectinase enzymes break down the pectin holding cells together. Once the cell wall has been removed they are considered protoplast is spherical in shape.
Option – D – Plant cells are eukaryotic cells which are found in green plants, photosynthetic eukaryotes of the kingdom Plantae. Their unique features include primary cell walls consisting cellulose, hemicelluloses as well as pectin, the presence of plastids with the ability to perform photosynthesis along with storing starch.
Thus the right answer to the question is option C – “A plant cell without a cell wall".
Note: In plant cells the protoplast, or living material of the cell, includes one or more vacuoles, that are vesicles including aqueous cell sap. Plant cells are also surrounded by a relatively tough but elastic wall around it.
