Hint:Oxyacid is defined as an acid that contains oxygen. The covalent non-metallic oxides react with water to form acidic oxides, that is they react with water to form oxyacids.
Complete step by step answer:
The terms oxoacid , oxyacid or ternary acid are the acid that contain oxygen . More specifically, it is a compound that contains hydrogen, oxygen and one other element with at least one hydrogen atom bound to oxygen that can dissociate to produce ${H^ + }$ cation and the anion .
The structure of an oxyacid is $X - O - H$in which the other atoms or groups can be connected to the central atom X.
Oxyacid dissociates in two ways :
1). $X - O - H \rightleftharpoons {\left( {X - O} \right)^ - } + {H^ + }$
2). $X - O - H \rightleftharpoons \left( {{X^ + }} \right) + O{H^ - }$
In the central atom $\left( X \right)$ is strongly electronegative, then it dissociates according to the $\left( i \right)$ chemical reaction as the bond between oxygen and hydrogen is weak.
And if the electronegativity of ‘X’ is low, then the oxyacid dissociates with respect to the second equation because the bond of oxygen and hydrogen do not break about.
For example : $HClO,HCl{O_2},HCl{O_3},HCl{O_4}$ these all are the oxyacids of chlorine.
$HClO \to $ hypochlorous acid
$HCl{O_2} \to $ chlorous acid
$HCl{O_3} \to $ chloric acid
$HCl{O_4} \to $ perchloric acid
So, now it is quite clear that an oxyacid is an acid that contain:
* Oxygen
* hydrogen
* non metal
Hence option (D) is the correct answer.
Note:
Remember that in oxyacids one $O - H$ bond is always present that breaks to give off hydrogen ions.An oxyacid molecule contains the structure X−O−H, where other atoms or atom groups can be connected to the central atom X.
