It is mainly for the female category as the girls from a very young age are sent to the temples to learn all the traditional things like music, dance worship etc and also rituals. It is good to work as it is followed by many generations. These girls spend their childhood and adulthood in the temple only and are considered as pure souls with a pure body but if they want to make relation with anyone so they can and also give birth to their babies and take care of them (governance).

Dr. Muthullashmi Reddy was born in Madras, she is a social reformer and a Padma Bhushan awarded she was an Indian medical practitioner. She is first in many things like she is the first woman who takes admission in men's college and the first women’s legislature in British India and many more. She fought for women’s rights activism and also encouraged the women to raise voice against the injustice towards them. The function of devadasi became evil as kings at that time started taking interest in buddha so whole money of kings spend on the Buddha maintenance and nothing is remaining for these devadasis and later they abused and harassed by the people for the sake of money and for their child's life when Muthullashmi came to know about the truth of this she raised the voice against it and proposed the bill to Madras legislative council and later it passed it is its big contribution toward women welfare.

Note:The devadasi system became fail when kings stop donating money to temples and later cheap minded people started using that devadasis for their physical satisfaction and their unwanted needs and due to their helplessness they aren't able to do anything because they need money for their life's needs.
