Hint Narora Atomic Power Plant is a nuclear power plant which is located in the highest populous state in India.

Complete answer: Nuclear power plants are the fifth-largest source of electricity in India and as of march 2018, India has 22 nuclear reactors. They produced a total of 35 TWh and supplied 3.22% of Indian Electricity in 2017. Narora Atomic Power plant is located in Narora, Bulandshahr District in Uttar pradesh. It is a nuclear power plant which has two reactors. Each reactor known as Pressurized heavy-water reactor (PHWR) is capable of producing 220 MW of electricity. The commercial operator of Narora Atomic Power Station - 1 began on 1 January 1991 and Narora Atomic Power Station - 2 on 1 July 1992. On 31 May, 1993, a major fire occurred when the two steam turbine blades servicing Unit- 1 Malfunctioned. Further Problems with PHWR’s cabling system led to the nuclear meltdown. Fortunately NAPS was fully rehabilitated after the fire and a Unit-2 was started.

The reactors of Narora plant were not originally under International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards but it was subsequent to the signing of 1-2-3 agreement which was placed under IAEA monitoring from 2014.

According to the study of 2011, it was seen that Narora Atomic Power Station’s efficiency in that year measured in terms of plant load factor (PLF) has gone by 100 per cent.

Note: There are seven Nuclear Power plants in India and Narora Nuclear power plant is considered as one of the safest plants. It also won a Golden Peacock Award for environment management in the year 2000.
