Hint: The plants are autotrophic organisms that prepare their own food. The plants are divided into Bryophytes, Pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms which can be vascular, non-vascular, seeded and naked seeded plants.
Complete answer:
Seeds are the ripened ovule that is produced as a result of fertilisation by the pollens. Seeds are the embryos that is produced as a result of sexual reproduction in plants. They are covered by an outer covering. The seeded plants are called the angiosperms and gymnosperms.
i) Angiosperms- Angiosperms are the flowering plants that bear seeds enclosed in the vessel. Angiosperm’s word is derived from the Greek word angeion meaning vessel and Sperma means seed. The seed coat encloses the embryo. The fruit consists of seeds. The seeds contain embryos, endosperm and seed coats. The plants can be monocots and dicots which can be herbaceous, annual as well as perennial.
ii) Gymnosperms- They are vascular plants that reproduce with the help of naked or exposed seeds. The seeds of the gymnosperms are borne of the cones which are not visible until mature. The example of gymnosperms are conifers like Cycas which are tall evergreen and woody. They are mostly found in the hilly and cool areas.
So, we can conclude that gymnosperms are the plants that bear naked seeds and are usually perennial, evergreen and woody.
Note: The angiosperms are the flowering plants whereas the gymnosperms are the non-flowering plants with definite vascular bundles. The gymnosperms are economically important plants that are used in making soaps, perfumes, antiseptics, nail polish, gums resins etc.
