-The first shipbuilding processing plant of India was set up at Vishakhapattanam in 1941. It was later embraced by the Indian Government in 1952 and was named 'Hindustan Shipyard Limited'.

-Established as the Scindia Shipyard, it was worked by industrialist Walchand Hirachand as a piece of The Scindia Steam Navigation Company Ltd. Walchand chose Visakhapatnam as an appropriate area for the development of the yard and claimed the land in November 1940.

-On 21 June 1941, Dr. Rajendra Prasad who was around then the acting Congress President laid the establishment stone for the shipyard.

While the Visakhapatnam port, one of 13 significant ports in India and the main significant port of Andhra Pradesh which likewise turned out to be India's second-biggest port by volume of freight dealt with, was opened in 1933. The Gangavaram Port, India's most profound port was initiated in 2009.
