Hint:Mona Lisa is also called the Portrait of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo, Italian La Gioconda, or French La Joconde. Although, this hasn’t been confirmed by many theories. It is an oil painting on a wood panel, painted somewhere between 1503 and 1519. It was painted by an artist who sought to combine art and science.

Complete answer:
The painting of Mona Lisa remains extremely mysterious till date. It was painted by Leornado da Vinci, an Italian artist. Today, it is the property of French government, and is present in the Le Louvre Museum.
Vinci used a rare pyramid design to place Mona Lisa with composure. He became the first painter to use aerial perspective to depict a sitter before an imaginary landscape in a portrait. It reveals his understanding of sfumato, musculature and the skull beneath the skin.
Mona Lisa painting shows a woman whose facial expression is enigmatic and she is gazing at us with a smile. Many people believe that her eyes look at someone else and not you, when looked carefully. There is a sense of harmony between all elements of the painting. It was acquired by French king Francis I. Then, it became the property of French Revolution from 1787–99. It was later installed in Napoleon's bedroom, and finally placed in Le Louvre at the end of the nineteenth century.

Hence, the correct answer is option (C).

Note:There have been many debates regarding the identity of the sitter. Some say she was the wife of Florentine merchant Francesco di Bartolomeo del Giocondo. Freud postulated that she could be Vinci’s mother, Caterina. Other scholars believe that it was Vinci disguising himself as a woman as a part of his riddle.
