Hint : Sodium Chloride $ \left( {NaCl} \right) $ commonly known as table salt. It is an ionic compound having white appearance, sodium and chloride are present in 1:1 ratio. Sodium chloride is found in abundance on Earth. It is also very essential for all living beings on Earth.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
We have to find the molar mass of $ NaCl $ .
The molar mass of the compound is defined as the sum of atomic masses of all the atoms that make up that molecule.
We should be aware about the atomic masses of both $ Na $ and $ Cl $ , in order to find the molar mass of $ NaCl $ , which are:
Na = $ 22.989gmo{l^{ - 1}} $
$ Cl $ = $ 35.45gmo{l^{ - 1}} $
From these we can calculate the molar mass of $ NaCl $
Molar mass of $ NaCl $ = $ 22.989 + 35.45 $
$ NaCl $ = $ 58.44gmo{l^{ - 1}} $
Thus, the molar mass was found to be $ 58.44gmo{l^{ - 1}} $ .
Additional Information:
Sodium chloride as mentioned above is very essential. In our body it maintains the electrolyte balance of fluids. Salt is also used in our food to add flavour to it. Thus, it is used in every household. Other than these it is also used to preserve food (meat packing). It has a large application in industrial manufacturing. Hospitals also use sodium chloride solution to alleviate dehydration. Salt is applied on accumulated snow on roads in cold areas as it lowers the melting point of snow and thus clearing the roads.
Note :
Just like we have found the molar mass of $ NaCl $ , we can find the molar mass of other molecules as well. Just by adding the atomic weights of the individual atoms that compose the molecule.
