Hint:-Biological classification is the scientific method of arranging organisms to categories in hierarchical order according to their evolutionary and morphological relationships. Taxonomy is the branch of science-related with the classification of organisms. Biologists have classified organisms based on different criteria. Some of the classifications are artificial, natural and phylogenetic.

Complete Answer:-
The modern system of classification proposed by R H Whittaker in 1969 classifies organisms into five kingdoms. This is known as the five-kingdom classification. Classified all the organisms in 2 Kingdom Monera, Kingdom Protista, Kingdom Fungi, Kingdom Plantae and Kingdom Animalia. The criteria used by Whittaker for five-kingdom classification are the cell structure of the organism body organisation nutritional modes technological status and phylogeny of the organism. Viruses, prions, viroids are not involved in this classification system.
The two-kingdom classification system is one of the earliest classifications proposed by Carolus Linnaeus in 1735. In this system, he classified all the living forms into two kingdoms namely Kingdom Plantae which included all the plans and Kingdom Animalia which include all the animals. The unicellular organisms like bacteria, Protista, algae etc. were not involved in this classification and therefore it was discarded later.
4 kingdom classification involved Kingdom Plantae, Animalia, Protista and Monera. In this system, fungi were included in Kingdom Plantae.

So, the correct answer is five, option D.

Note:- After discarding the two kingdom classification in 1866 Ernst Haeckel created the third kingdom for unicellular organisms like algae and fungi. This third Kingdom was called Kingdom Protista by Haeckel. The invention of the electron microscope was the reason for the introduction of the fourth Kingdom Monera for organisms like bacteria and cyanobacteria.
Kingdom Monera was created by Copeland. The latest classification system is the three-domain system which is classified as organisms under domains Archaea, Eukarya and Bacteria.
