Hint :Mixture consists of two or more substances. Most of the time each component of the mixture can be separated from one other and can be brought back into its pure form using different chemical and physical techniques .
Complete Step By Step Answer:
To separate a mixture, one should have knowledge about the physical or chemical properties of the components present in the mixture.
First of all , know about the physical state of all the components present in the mixture i.e. if they are solid , liquid or in gaseous phase and figure out which one of them is easy to convert in the different state so that it can be separated from the other component .
Since, in our question, we are given the mixture of sand and naphthalene.
So we know very well that sand must be present in the solid state and naphthalene too. Also naphthalene can be easily converted into the gaseous form.
Thus, we will sublimate naphthalene by providing it with heat and our sand will be left behind with us.
Therefore our answer is, to separate the mixture of sand and naphthalene from each other, we will use the procedure of sublimation i.e. sublime the naphthalene by giving it heat.
Note :
Sublimation is the process of conversion of solid state directly into the gaseous form, without even passing through the liquid phase. One more interesting fact is that this process can be reversed too and is known as de-sublimation, in that the gaseous phase converts directly into the solid phase without even passing through the liquid state.
