Hint: The transmission medium can be defined as the passage through which one can transmit information from a sender at one end to a receiver at the other end. Transmission media are located below the physical layer and are controlled by the physical layer. The physical layer deals with transmission of each bit from one node to another over any physical medium. Transmission media are also known as communication channels.
Complete step by step solution:
An electrical signal is in the form of current and an electromagnetic signal is the series of electromagnetic energy pulses of different frequencies ranging from radio waves to the gamma waves. These signals can be transmitted through copper wires, optical fibers, atmosphere, water and even in vacuum. The transmission of waves is highly dependent on the Media of transmission as every media has different properties like bandwidth, delay, cost and ease of installation and maintenance.
The transmission media are of two types:
1)Guided Transmission Media: It is also known as bounded or wired media which consists of wires and cables for transmission of data. Some examples of Guided transmission media are:
->Twisted pair cable
->Coaxial cable
->Power line
->Fiber optics
2)Unguided transmission media: It is also known as wireless media as it transmits data in the form of electromagnetic waves which do not require any medium for their transmission. Some examples of unguided transmission media are:
->Radio transmission
->Microwaves transmission
->Light transmission
->Infrared transmission
Note: -Do not get confused between wired media and unwired media.There may be few devices which can exhibit the property of both guided and unguided medium.
