Hint India is a large country in terms of both area and population. Delhi is the national capital of India. The largest state according to the area covered is Rajasthan and the smallest state in Goa.
Complete step by step answerIndia is a vast country. It is made up of 28 states and 9 union territories. These states and union territories are divided mainly based upon the languages spoken in the areas. We have a Union or Central Government at the center with its capital at New Delhi. It frames the laws and rules for the whole Nation. The Prime Minister and his/her Council of Ministers at the Central Government look after the welfare and progress of the people. The Central Government alone cannot look after the law and order in each part of the country. Therefore, India has been divided into smaller areas called states. Every state has its own capital. Each state has its own elected government. The State Government has all the important officers like the Governor, the Chief Minister, and other Ministers. The Governor is the head of a state. Union Territories are the parts of India that are directly under the control of the Central Government. This is the Political Division of India. In the Administrative Divisions of India, the states are divided into divisions which are further divided into districts. These are further classified as the Sub District / Tehsil / Taluka / Sub Divisions / Mandals / Circles and then into Village / Towns. In rural areas, only the smaller subdivisions exist. Urban local bodies exist instead of rural subdivisions in urban areas. The Gram-Panchayat is the smallest subdivision.
NoteAs of 2020, there are 28 states in India as Jammu and Kashmir is excluded and Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir are made two different Union Territories. Dadra and Nagar-Haveli and Daman and Diu are combined together as one Union Territory. This makes a total of 8 Union territories in India.
