Hint: Animal breeding is a branch of animal science that selectively makes an animal with desirable genetic traits. It aims to increase the yield of animals and improve the desirable quantity of produce. Animal breeding is an important aspect of animal husbandry.
Complete step by step answer:Breeding is a specific group of animals, possessing the same domestic behavior, appearance and other characteristics that distinguish them from the organism of the same species. In other words, a breed is a group of animals related by descent and similar in most characteristics like general appearance, feature size, configuration, etc. are said to belong to a breed. Controlled breeding experiments are carried out by using artificial insemination. The semen is controlled from the male that tract of the selected female by the breeder. The semen may be used immediately or can be frozen adieus at a later date. It can also be transported in a frozen form to where the female is housed. In this way, desirable mattings are carried. Artificial insemination helps us to overcome several problems of normal mattings.
The objectives of animal breeding are as follows:-
i) To increase animal yield like- egg-milk cottonwood etc.
ii) To produce a disease-resistant variety of animals.
iii) To increase the productive life.
iv) To improve the growth rate
v) To increase the quality of their yields like producing milk, egg, meat, wool, the cotton of superior quality.
Note: Often, the success rate of crossing mature male and female animals is fairly low even though artificial insemination is carried out. To improve the chances of a successful production of hybrids other means are also used. Multiple Ovulation Embryo Transfer Technology (MOET) is a word search program for herd improvement.
