Hint: The legislative organ of the Union government is the Parliament. Part V of the Indian Constitution contains Article 79 to 122 which deals with the organisation, composition, qualification, duration, procedures, privileges and powers of the Parliament.

Complete Step by Step answer:
The parliament consists of the President, the Council of States - Rajya Sabha and the House of the people - Lok Sabha. The President is an integral part of the Parliament even though he is not a member of either House of the Parliament. The Parliament in India deals with the functions of legislation, overseeing administration, passing of the budget, ventilation of public grievances and discussing various subjects like development plans, national policies and international relations similar to other Parliamentary democracies. The President summons each House of the Parliament from time to time when required. The Parliament must meet at least twice a year and the intervening period between two parliamentary sessions cannot be more than six months. The Parliament conducts three sessions in a year-
1. The Budget Session which spans from February to May.
2. The Monsoon Session which spans from July to September, and
3. The Winter Session spans from November to December.
A Parliamentary ‘session’ is the period spanning between the commencement of the House and its prorogation or dissolution in the case of the lower chamber of the House. Recess is referred to the period between the prorogation of a House and its reassembly in a new session.

Note: There is a difference between adjournment and prorogation. Adjournment only terminates a sitting of the Parliament and not the session whereas prorogation refers to not only the termination of a sitting but also a session of the House. Adjournment is done by the presiding officer of the House, while prorogation is done by the President of India.
