A wave is a propagating dynamic disturbance (change from equilibrium) of one or more quantities in physics, mathematics, and associated fields, often as defined by a wave equation. A minimum of two field proportions in the wave medium are present in physical waves. Waves may be periodic, in which case certain quantities oscillate at some frequency continuously around an equilibrium (resting) value. It is assumed to be a flowing wave as the whole waveform travels in one direction; a pair of superimposed periodic waves travelling in opposite directions, on the other side, create a standing wave. The amplitude of vibration of a standing wave has nulls at some places where the amplitude of the wave seems smaller or even zero.
Matter wave: Matter waves, as an example of wave-particle duality, are a core part of quantum mechanics theory. All matter shows wave-like behaviour. For instance, much as a beam of light or a water wave, a beam of electrons may be diffracted. The wavelength of de Broglie is the wavelength, \[\lambda \] , associated with a large particle (i.e. a large particle, as opposed to a massless particle) and is bound to its momentum, \[p\] , via the constant of Planck, \[h\] :

The two characteristics of the matter wave are:
a. Lower the mass of the body, greater is the wavelength possessed by it.
b. Matter waves are not dependent on the charge present on the material particle.
Note: The theory of matter waves by De Broglie postulates that a wave is indeed any particle of matter that has linear momentum. A matter wave's wavelength correlated with a particle is inversely proportional to the magnitude of the linear momentum of the particle. The velocity of a flow of matter is the momentum of the particle.
