Hint: In the 19th century many socio-religious reform movements took place in India, spread into different parts of the country which not only helped women but also different social groups.

Complete answer: The development of new forms of communication took place which resulted into debates and discussions about social customs and practices and for the first time books, newspapers, magazines, leaflets and pamphlets were printed. After getting access to these resources ordinary people also write and express their ideas in their languages.
Indian reformers and reform groups initiated these debates, and the famous ones were Raja Rammohun Roy, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Swami Dayanand Saraswati and Jyotirao Phule. They spread their knowledge and spread their ideas through writings, Sabhas and speeches. In 1829 Sati was banned with the help of Raja Rammohun Roy. Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar used the ancient texts to suggest the widows could remarry and finally, it was adopted by British officials, and a law was passed in 1856 permitting widow remarriage and slavery was abolished in 1843 with the help of British East India Company and the female infanticide prevention act also known as Act VIII of 1870 was passed in British India to prevent murders of female infants.
Thus, option C is the correct option.

Note: Some of the reforms which took place in this period are women education, the abolition of child marriage, the abolition of untouchability etc. Jyotirao Phule wrote ‘Gulamgiri’ showing the condition of low caste people.
