Hint: Assume Laxmi’s age as ‘x’ and form an equation by using the given equation which will be like ‘49 = 3 (x) + 4’ and then solve this equation to get the final answer.
Complete step by step answer:
To solve the given question we will write the given Data first, therefore,
Age of Laxmi’s Father = 49 years ……………………………………………………………… (1)
Now we will assume Laxmi’s age as ‘x’ therefore
Laxmi’s Age = x years ………………………………………………………………………………… (2)
As we have given in the question that Laxmi’s father is 4 years older than three time Laxmi’s age, i.e. if we multiply the Laxmi’s age by three and then if we add 4 in it then we will get the age of Laxmi’s father, therefore by using this condition and we can write,
Laxmi’s Fathers age = 3 (Laxmi’s age) + 4
If we put the values of equation (1) and equation (2) in the above equation we will get,
Therefore, 49 = 3 (x) + 4
Above equation can also be written as,
Therefore, 49 = 3x + 4
By rearranging the above equation we will get,
Therefore, 3x + 4 = 49
If we shift 4 on the right hand side of the above equation we will get,
Therefore, 3x = 49 – 4
By simplifying the above equation we will get,
Therefore, 3x = 45
If we shift 3 on the right hand side of the equation we will get,
Therefore, \[x=\dfrac{45}{3}\]
By simplifying the above equation we will get,
Therefore, x = 15
Therefore Laxmi’s age is equal to 15 years.
Note: Many students will confuse forming an equation from the given condition and will write it as 49 = 3 (x + 4) but do remember that her age is 4 years greater than 3 times of her age.
